Note: Allen Anchors left school as a young man when his Father was killed. He went to work to help keep the family together. He would become a mechanic. Moving to Birmingham in the early 20's he would become employ by Drennan Motor Co.and worked his way up to shop foreman. His nickname was "Jake" but the employees at work called him "The Bull of Drennan's". He was a very large framed man but a heart of gold. He was so well thought of by Mr. Drennan that he wasgiven property on the Drennan family estate in Florida to live on after his retirement. He was given a gold Illinois watch at retirement that has been handed down to his grandson. He would return to Alabama to live out the rest ofhis life at the family home on Alabama Ave. in Birmingham. He was known by all the children on the block as "Papaw".
