Another source of information for John Hardy M. and his desendents came from Homer Gammill, 16026 Nicklaus Lane, Sun City, Ariz, 85351 in a letter dated March 14, 1980, written to Ortis and Frances (Milholland) Bucher. In his letter he said that this stuff (info) was what his Dad (Finis Gammill) did for Aunt Grace (Milholland) years ago. From a Funeral Bulletin: "IN MEMORY OF LOURA A. Info from the Gammill family: "Laura Milholland Gammill Born: in the town of Lilly, Tazwell County, State of Illinois, July 10, 1877. Her father: John H. Milholland, a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Her mother: Nancy Elizabeth Rogers Milholland. She had in all, five brothers and one sister. Married to Finis I. Gammill, on August 28, 1901, at Charleston, Illinois, by her uncle J. R. Rogers. The couple's first home was in Lerna, Illinois, but later they lived in Mattoon, Illinois. Before marriage she taught in several country schools around Lerna and Charleston. While they lived in Mattoon, she taught in the Mattoon City Schools. In 1909, they moved to Colorado, and for two years were farmers. Crop failure however, led her husband to decide to return to school teaching. By 1914, she was again teaching school, and continued to do so with some interruption, throughout the rest of her life. In all, Loura Gammill had taught forty-two years when she closed her teaching carreer in 1951. She was always active in church work. When necessary, in whatever church the small town afforded. When possible, in the Presbyterian church. Since coming to Urbana, in 1951, she has been active in, and a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana. Always, she was active in the life of the community, and gave freely of her time to those activities she felt to be worthy. In particular she valued her membership in P.E.O., Delt Kappa Gamma and the Order of the Eastern Star. Her family: A son, Homer L. Gammill, presently at the University of Illinois as Associate Professor of Industrial Psychology. His wife, Rose M Hoffman Gammill. Children: Robert and Jean. A son: Kenneth A Gammill, major in the U.S.Army, assigned to Ft. Carson, Colorado. His wife Bernice Graves Gammill. Children Stephen and Elizabeth." Obituary: "Mrs. Loura M. Gammill, who taught for many years in the Berthoud schools, passed away on February 24, 1955. Since she left Berthoud in 1951, she has been living at the home of her son, Homer L. Gammill, Associate Professor of Industrial Psychology at the University of Illinois , in Urbana. Mrs. Gammill was born on July 10, 1877, in the little town of Lilly, Illinois. Her father was J. H. Milholland, a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian church. Her mother was Nancy Rogers Milholland, Of her five brothers, and one sister, there remain J. Edgar Milholland of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Herbert R. Milholland of Molina, Colorado, and Grace Milholland Riche of Freeport, Illinois. Mrs. Gammill's teaching career began before her marriage to Finis I. Gammill, also a teacher, at Charleston, Illinois on August 28, 1901. She and her husband moved to Colorado in 1909 to take up farming but crop failures soon led them to return to teaching school. During her forty-two years of teaching she stimulated the thinking of more than two generations. Nearly twenty years of the teaching was in Berthoud. . . . She is survived by the families of her two sons, Homer L. Gammill of Urbana, Illinois, and Major Kenneth A Gammill, presently serving at Fort Carson, Colorado. Survivors: Sister - Mrs. Grace Milholland Riche, Freeport, Illinois. Brothers - J. Edgar Milholland, Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Herbert R. Milholland, Molina, Colorado. Funeral services will be held at the Renner funeral home in Urbana, Illinois, on Sunday February 27, 1955 and in Berthoud on Tuesday, March 1, 1955." 1930 Census, Berthoud, Larimer, Colorado.
