"Cora Bucher Named Outstanding Pioneer" "A lively little lady who served the educational needs of Weld County students for 25 years was named "Outstanding Pioneer Educator" for 1983, during ceremonies at the Lt. Monte Samber Memorial Basketball Tounament this past weekend at Prairie High School between New Raymer and Stoneham. She is Mrs. Cora Bucher, who along with her husband lives on a ranch northwest of New Raymer. The presentation is made annually just before the championship game of the tournament. A native and lifetime resident of Colorado, Mrs. Bucher was born in Rockvale, Colorado., She graduated from Armel High School and then enrolled at Teachers College, now the University of Northern Colorado, where she received her degree with a major in Business and minors in English and Social Studies. Her first job was at Grover High School where she taught business subjects for two years. She then took a few years leave from teaching for marriage and family, which full occupied her time and interests. Mrs. Bucher began teaching again when her younger daughter started school at Grover. However, this time around she taught English. She was English teacher at grover High School for 16 years, then made a move to Prairie High School where she taught for 7 years. Mrs. Bucher says her 25 years of teaching were rewarding in many ways, She thoroughly enjoyed her students, not only as a teacher, but also as a sponsor for many of their activities. She and her husband reside on a ranch northwest of New Raymer and their two daughters and their families live in Denver. She is enjoying this phase of her life too. There is more time for family and friends as well, and the opportunity to pursue her interests in sewing, handwork and reading. With her when she received her award were her husband, her two daughters, Ila Jean Beale and Margaret Palmer, and her son-in-law Ralph Palmer. The presentation and gift were made by Roger Sorenson, principal of Prairie School." Obituary: "Cora Marie Bucher of Denver, a school teacher died Friday. She was 85. Services will be at 1pm today at Grasce United Methodist Churchk 4905 E. Yale Ave. Interment wil be in Chapel Hill Mortuary. She was born Jan 12, 1914, in Rockvale. On june 4, 1938 she married Thomas M. Bucher in Greeley. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Lampus. She is survived by two daughters, Margaret Ann Palmer and Ila J.
