Notes
a. Note:   OCCUPATION: Tinsmith SocSec#: 116-09-9411 From the Social Security Death Index. BIOGRAPHY: According to Alan Sussman, grandson of Jacob, Jacob left the Ukraine so that he wouldn't be drafted into the Czar's army. Russia, under the Czar, was anti-Semitic, and Jacob felt no allegiance to either Russia or the Czar. According to the passenger record of the ship St. Paul, a Jacob Sussman, age 24, sailed from Southampton, England, in 1903, arriving at Ellis Island on July 19. It is by no means certain that this is the same Jacob Sussman as in this family tree. The Record of Detained Alien Passengers lists a Jacob Sussman traveling to his brother Enoch in Brooklyn. The passenger information does not include any record of Jacob's wife, Ida, or son, Israel (Isadore). On Sept 12, 1918, a Jacob Sussman filled out a WWI draft registration card in the Bronx, NY. He was husband of Ida and foreman at a fireproof door company, facts consistent with our Jacob Sussman. However, his birthday is given as April 10th, 1880 (age 38) rather than April 9, 1878. MARRIAGE: "As for Ida and Jacob's marriage, they divorced after 48 years and he married a widow who treated him like gold. I don't remember her name but she passed away before he did. Ida was a very domineering person, that I know. I was lucky that she liked me." (Email from Judy Field)
