Note: From 33 NJA 402: 1752, April 18. Somers, Richard, of Great Egg Harbor, Gloucester Co.; will of. Wife, Judith, £200, and use of 1/2 the plantation where I live, that is to say, the half of the thousand acres which my father left me. Son, John, 1/2 the plantation where I live, with the Islands, flats and waters adjoining the same (according to drafts and surveys about 120 acres); also 1/2 the right that is in the Islands below the house, between that and the east end of the beach, which is about 200 acres more; also 20 acres of marsh at Tookhow Marsh. Son, Richard, all the land that joins James Steelman; also the right that I took up below it, by three surveys, on the north side of the channel of Great Egg Harbor Inlet, containing 426 acres; also 1/2 my right on Peck's Beach; and he is to pay his younger brother, Edmund Somers, £34, when 21. Son, James, the land at Grederes Neck, which was taken up by five surveys; also 13 acres at Cedar Hammock; also 200 acres in Tookahow Meadows; also all of Garits Island, of 138 acres; and he is to pay £34 to his brother, Edmund, Son, Joseph, the land that I bought of John Price, 21 Dec., 1749, on South River, in two surveys, and one on Miere Run with my old cedar swamp, and the 67 acres of other land, with other lands; and he is to pay to his brother, Edmund, £30. Amen, the eighth day of the second Month in theyear of our Lord 1752 I RICHARD SOMERS of Great Eggharbour in theCounty of Gloucester in the Province of New Jersey, being in healthof body and of perfect mind and memory, thanks be to god for it andcalling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it isappointed for all men once to died Do make and ordain this my lastwill and Testament, that is to say First of all I reccomend my soulto god that gave it and for my body I commit to the earth to beburied in a Christian like and desent manner at the discretien of myExecuters; And touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleasedGod to bless me with in this life I give demise and dispose of theSame after my Just Debts are paid in the following manner:Imp s: I give to my well beloved wife JUDITH SOMERS after my deceasethe sum of two hundred pounds to be raised out of my personal estatetogether with two beds and bedding and furniture at her own choiceand my desk and the biggest kettle and a Iron Pott at her own choiceand her riding mair and Saddle all to be at her own dispoal, I alsoallow her the use of the one half of my plantation I live, that is tosay the half of the thousand acres which my father left me as long asshe remains a widow which land is the north east side together withmy dwelling house and barn and half the Orchard and the use of theout Meadow for getting of Hay for what Stock she keeps on the place.Item: I give and bequeath to my son JOHN SOMERS the one half of theplantation whereon I live with half the home Orchard which is Southwest side of plantation with the Islands and Platts and waters laidout adjoining to the same which appears to be by Drafts and Surveysto be about one hundred and twenty acres or more, and half the rightthat is in the Islands below the house between that and the east endof the Beach which right appears to be by Drafts and survey to beabout two hundred and more acres and a right to seventy acres ofMarsh in my right at Tuckahow Marsh, all the above lands and Marshherein mentioned to JOHN SOMERS I gave to him and his heirs forever.Item: I give to my beloved RICHARD SOMERS all the land and Marsh thatlies adjoining to JAMES STEELMAN land bounded as follows:Beginning near the mouth of a Throfare called Loesey Harbour so as tobring a small ditch to bear in a cove formerly called Giffords pond,about North sixty 2 Degrees west and from thence to an oak treemarked with six notches a little above the ditch in the field andfrom thence near North Sixty Degr s west along the ridge on the northside at Newfield to the north corner of the field and thence StraitCourse to the uppermost fork of a Creek called Mill Creek and thencealong the same by the several courses to the mouth, then up theseveral courses of Patconk Creek to JAMES STEELMANs land and along bythe said Steelmans land to the sound and then along the same to theplace of Beginning, and all the right that I took up below it whichthree Surveys on the North East side of the Channel of Great EggHarbour inlet, containing about four hundred and twenty six acres andhalf my rights on Pecks beach and one hundred and fifty acres ofMarsh in my rite at Tuckahow meadows and I order him, the saidRICHARD SOMERS to pay his youngest brother EDMUND SOMERS the sum ofthirty four pounds of Currant lawful money of the Province to be paidto the said EDMUND SOMERS at his coming to the age of twenty oneyears, and then all the above mentioned lands and Marshes, I the saidRICHARD SOMERS do give to him and his heirs forever.Item: to my beloved son JAMES SOMERS all the land which I have liesjoyning to a place called Gregories Neck which was taken up at fivesurveys, with thirteen acres of Marsh at the Cedar Hammock which theDraft will plainly make appear to be twelve hundred acres of landwith two hundred of Marsh at or in my right in Tuckahow Meadows alsoanother tract of Marsh and Plat land and waters lying on South sideof Great Eggharbour Bay called Garrets Island Containing one hundredand thirty eight acres and I order him the said JAMES SOMERS to paythe sum of thirty four pounds of Current lawful money of thisProvince to his brother EDMUND SOMERS at his coming to the age oftwenty one years. Then I the said RICHARD SOMERS do give all theabove mentioned land and Marsh to the said JAMES SOMERS to him andhis heirs forever.Item: I give to my beloved son JOSEPH SOMERS all the lands whichpurchased of JOHN PRICE which appears by virtue of a deed bearingdate the twenty first of December one thousand and seven hundred andforty nine Situate on South River in two Surveys and one on Miery rumwith my old Cedar Swamp and the sixty seven Acres of other land andtwo hundred acres of Marsh in my right at Middle River and seventytwo acres on the Northermostof Garrets Island And I order the saidJOSEPH SOMERS to pay his brother EDMUND SOMERS the sum of thirtypounds and then I the said RICHARD SOMERS Do give unto the saidJOSEPH SOMERS, all the above mentioned lands and Marsh to him and hisheirs forever.Item: I give all the restof my movable Estate to my four daughtersSARAH and JUDITH and ELIZABETH and HANNAH equally to be dividedbetween them considering that JUDITH has had before to make thatequal it wanting.
