Note: Left Italy 6 Feb 1908 to emigrate to USA. Arrived in NYC 17 or 18 Feb 1908. Ship Duca delgi Abruzzi from Naples (steamship line Navigazione Generale Italiana). Came to USA to be with Alfredo Ulissi. Listed in the 1910 census as living in Penns Grove NJ, working at powder mill. Name is spelled, "Olissi" There were borders in the house also, Fred (24), Pete (29), Zichietto (18), Domenico (25)), Vincenzo (?24 )Ulissi. Listed in 1915 New Jersey census as age 31, born June, 1884. Wife, Luisa, was age 25, born August, 1890. At that time was laborer, living in rented house. Was working at Duponts as laborer in dyeworks at time of 1920 census. Had boarder in the house, Domenic Fidanzo (1920). Living on 77 Pitman Street, no mortgage on house. During 1920 census ?border living in his house "Lizzie" Luisa (Lizette) /DePaolo. Age 10. (Niece was probably there and census taker recorded incorrect information). Intention to naturalize 25 Nov 1925. Preliminary form of naturalization 10 Oct 1927. Witness by Domenico Saienni & Paul Molinari. Naturalized 30 Mar 1928 (age 44) filed in Salem, NJ. Lived in Penns Grove on 96 Railroad Avenue. Worked 11 hours/day at Duponts. Briefly owned and operated a restaurant in Penns Grove, NJ. Spoke of closing it because he was forced to give free meals to "Mafia." Married at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church in Camden, NJ. ?Legally changed/went by name David Ulis. After he retired (?1951) went to Italy for three months and spent time with his brother Dionisio and family.
