Note: Served in the Army. Ed and Ruth raised their grandson, Sherman Strawn, from the age of about 10 months, after his mother passing away. Although I believe there was a legal adoption, he kept the Strawn name. ************* Ed Ellison Services Thursday Funeral services for James Edward "Ed" Ellison Sr, 80, West Plains, will be at 2 pm Thursday, March 8, 2001, in the Rose Chapel of the Robertson-Drago Funeral Home. Mr Ellison died at 10:30 am, Sunday, March 4, 2001, at his home. He was born Nov 1, 1920, in Texas County, the son of John Morris and Vena Hunter Ellison. He received his education in the schools of Willow Springs, and on Sept 6, 1939, was married at West Plains to Ruth Gertrude Johnson, who preceded him in death Nov 29, 1996. Mr Ellison was a veteran, having served with the US Army during World War II. Before his retirement he had operated Eds Service Station for many years, and had worked for Cloud Oak Flooring and the city of West Plains. Mr Ellison enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, and loved spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle Church. Survivors include nine children, James Ellison and wife Tammy, Cabool; Jack Ellison and wife Joyce, Houston, Mo; and Joe Ellison, Bob Ellison, Susan Turnbull and husband Robert Turnbull Sr., John Ellison, Edith Pringle and husband, Charlie, Roger Ellison and wife Debbie, and Sherman Strawn, all of West Plains; 34 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two children, Kenneth Ellison and Edna Strawn; one brother, Lester Ellison; and one sister, Jessie Ford. Memorial contributions may be made to the family and left at the funeral home. The body will lie in state 4 pm Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. Family visitation will be 7 to 8 pm Wednesday. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors provided by the Missouri Military Funeral Honors Programs and the Veterans Honor Gaurd of West Plains. ************* Grandpa Ed owned and operated a service station in West Plains where the city hall and police station now sits.
