Note: CONFESSES STEALING ROASTING EARS AND PEDDLING THEM (from Saturdays Daily Quill) Luther Ellison, who lives just east of the Bond Block on Washington avenue, was arrested this morning on a charge of stealing roasting ears and grapes. He told Sheriff C R Kelly that he has stolen in the last few weeks 40 dozen roasting ears which he has sold mostly to local merchants. Ellison is said to have been taking the choice ears of young corn from cornfields in the valley just east of West Plains. He also is charged with stealing grapes at the farm of P C Austin five miles south of West Plains. He did not say what he did with the grapes. Five dozen ears of corn which Ellison had not yet sold were found in his possession when he was arrested. Quill, Feb 21 1929, look for article on Luther's first wife, Martha.
