(Book 4, Pg 171). ************* Howell County Gazette, Friday, February 6, 1891, Tuesday Column "Harvey Lanscot, aged 12 years, was shot and instantly killed last Friday by Solomon, the 19-year-old son of Jacob Stubbs, living near Siloam Springs, in this county. The killing occurred at young Lanscot's house, which is just over the line in Douglas County. The deceased's mother keeps a house of ill-fame and has several females living with her. Young Stubbs went over to pay the inmates of the house a visit, and while he was there a couple of the girls took his horse and started out for a ride. Stubbs picked up a pistol, which was supposed to be empty, and snapped it once or twice at the girls. At this juncture young Lanscot said something to Stubbs, who suddenly wheeled around and, pointing the pistol to Lanscot, fired, the ball going through the boys heart and killing him instantly. The pistol had been empty for a long time, but the young lady who owned it had put some cartridges in it that afternoon and said nothing about it to anybody. The two boys had always been great friends and were nearly always together, so Stubbs could have no motive in killing his young friend, but from what we can learn of the said (sad?) affair it was a pure accident, althought it was an accident, but Stubbs has been arrested and will have his preliminary in a few days. W. N. Evans, of this place, has been retained as defendant's council."
