Note: West Plains Quill, Thursday, July 4, 1940 Funeral Services for Mrs A Christeson Pioneer of South Missouri Ozarks Succumbed at Home of a Son, J Ed Harris, Near West Plains, Tuesday Night Funeral services for Mrs Nancy Jane Christeson, 91, who died Tuesday night at the home of a son, J Ed Harris, 6 miles west of West Plains, were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Evergreen Church, north of West Plains. Mrs Christeson suffered a stroke several days ago, and had since been in a critical condition. The services were in charge of the Rev Joe Anderson and the Manze quartet of West Plains sang the funeral hymns. Mrs Christeson, who was the widow of the late Andrew Christeson of West Plains, was born January 22, 1849, at Thomasville, in Oregon county, and was the daughter of Mr and Mrs Tillman Phillips, early pioneers of Oregon county. She was twice married, her first husband, John Harris, to whom she was married at Brandsville, where they lived for a short time before moving to Olden, having died in 1880. Later she married Mr Christeson, and they made their home on a farm near West Plains. After her husbands death several years ago, Mrs Christeson had made her home with her children. She had been a member of the General Baptist Church for 50 years. Besides the son at whose home she died, Mrs Christeson is survived by one other son, A L Christeson of Mariana, Ark, a daughter, Mrs Essie Street of Cabool, 21 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs Sarah Brown of Harrisburg, Mo, and Mrs Zela Thurman of Racine, Mo. Mrs Street and the son at Mariana, both were here at Mrs Christesons bedside when she passed away. Funeral and burial arrangements were in charge of Mr and Mrs Paige Robertson of the Robertson Mortuary.
