October 5 1919, Oakland Tribune, News item: Ferry Train Kills Man Crossing Sreet H. G. Monroe, 74 years old, a sailor, was instantly killed early last night when an eastbound Southern Pacific train bore down upon him on the right-of-way between Twenty-second and Twenty-third streets. Monroe was dead when the motorman alited and came along-side his mangled body. The body was removed to the morgue where it was said, Monroe resided at 2625 East Ninth Street.
