Maria Louisa Edwards was born in Hancock County, Georgia, June 22, 1815 and married Dr. William P. Beasley in her 18th year. Died January 15th, 1886. They raised five sons. Two obituaries appeared for Maria Beasley. Both came from the LaGrange Reporter. One appeared in the regular obituary column and one appeared in an article entitled "Mountville Melodies". Notarized copies in hard file. 1."Our Mountville correspondent announces the death of a lady, Mrs. Dr. W.P. Beasley, whose gentle domestic life and graces of character made her the centre of a very happy circle. She was a woman of culture and formerly of wealth. As the mistress of one of the most elegant country homes in Georgia, she dispensed, in the happy days of yore, a gracious and refined hospitality. Only two of her notable sons survive-- Dr. Stephen Beasley, of Texas, and Dr. J.A. Beasley, of Langville Alabama. They inherit many of those fine qualities of head and heart which distinguished and adorned their mother. Her venerable husband, once a prominent member of our General Assembly, yet lives. Mrs. Beasley had been in failing health for some time, from a pulmonary disease. Her end was not unexpected. Her remains were interred in the family cemetery. Rev. W.E. Dozier, of Mountville, officiating. Rev. J.T. Bruce went out, but arrived too late." 2. From "Mountville Melodies": Saturday evening last, Mrs. Louisa Beasley, wife of Dr. Wm. P. Beasley, expired. For years she has lived in this community, loved and admired by all who were fortunate enough to claim her acquaintance. A most highly talented and accomplished lady, she ever used her gifts for good. She always manifested a lively interest in whatever pertained to the welfare and improvement of the neighborhood, and hard indeed will it be to fill her place. We sadly mourn her loss and sympathize deeply with those to whom she was nearest and dearest. Maria Beasley has estate administration in Troup county Records. Dr. J.A. Beasley and Dr. Stephen T. Beasley has shares in that estate.
