Mrs. H.C. Eichelberger, better known in later years as Mrs. Tidy Eichelberger, crossed over the river to the unknown beyond. Mrs. Eichelberger was the last survivor of a pioneer family. She was a daughter of L.E. Downes, one of Crockett's first citizens, and a sister of J.E. Downes, later a prominent Crockett businessman. She had other brothers and sisters, all of whom preceded her in death. When a young woman she was united in marriage to H.H.C. Eichelberger, long a well-known citizen of Crockett, but who passed on a number of years ago. She was, as was the Downes family, a strong Methodist. Funeral services were held from the Callaway funeral home Thursday afternoon at 5 o'clock, Rev. A.S. Lee, pastor of the Crockett Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Crockett cemetery. Mrs. H.C. Eichelberger, whose maiden name was Bathia Downes, was 86 years old and was born in Crockett, about where the Magnolia filling station now stands and where the Downes old home stood for many years. The last of her immediate family , she leaves two sons, Elbert and Willie Eichelberger, both of whom live in San Francisco, California. She also leaves a daughter, mrs. J.G. Beasley of Crockett, the former Genevieve Eichelberger. Also left are grandchildren and great grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. J.G. Beasley, Jr., and daughter, of Crockett.
