a. Note:   [gurley.FTW] Baylis Wood Earle came to Waco from Mississippi in 1857. He built what was later known as the Earle Harrison House. He died in just a little more than a year after his arrival in Texas. His son, Isham Harrison Earle served in the Confederate Army and returned to Waco to join with his brother, John Baylis Earle in the construction of the first cotton mill west of the Mississippi river. The two sons were outstanding community builders. John Baylis Earle became a charter member of both the Waco Suspension Bridge Company and of the Waco TAP Railroad company. he died in Waco in 1860. Isham Harrison Earle moved to Heweitt after the federal authorities confiscated the cotton mill. There he engaged in farming and axquired considerable land, much of which has now become city property. His daughter, Dr. Hallie Earle, was one of the early woman doctors of the county. J.B. Earle, II, the sone of John Baylis Earle, was born in Waco in 1866. He studied law and served as justice of the peace before going into the telephone business. He helped organize a number of telephone companies over Texas. he was also one of the organizers of the Liberty National Bank and later became its president. He died in 1930.
