Notes
a. Note:   [Ulrich.FTW] Obituary: Dodgeville, Chronicle: Hiram M. Morey was born June 30, 1839 in New York state and departed this life Jan. 31, 1917 at the home of his sister, Mrs. M. Cavanough, in Avoca. He came with his parents when a child to Wisconsin and grew to manhood on his father's farm a mile west of town. He enlisted in the 6th Wisconsin battery in the Civil War in 1861 and served until wounded in Oct. 1862, in the battle of Corinth and was honorable discharged and came home and has been an invalid ever since, until death relieved him of his suffering. He leaves to mourn his death two sisters, Mrs. Sheble of Washington; Mrs. Cavanough of Avoca, and three brothers, William, of Spencer Oklahoma; Allen of West Bend, Ia., and Charles, living on the home farm, and many friends. The funeral was held Friday afternoon from the M.E. Church. Revs. Nixen and Hood of Muscoda spoke words of comfort and consolation and the male quartette, Prof. Barrett, Messers. Kinzie, Hudson and Porter rendered three appropriate selections. The remains were laid to rest in the Avoca cemetery. Thus has passed from the ranks one who so bravely risked his life for his country's sake.
