Notes
a. Note:   H1338
Note:   He was 32 in 1860. The 1860 census stated that Martin was a general laborer with a personal estate valued at $100. It also states that all three children were born in Illinois. However, microfilm from the LDS shows that Isidor was born in France. This means that Martin and his family came to the U. S. before Louis was born (approximately 1853 or 1854) Have not found him in any other census at this time. According to the History of Pulaski County, Illinois, Martin disappeared in 1861. He left and never returned home. "Son" Ulrich states that Michael might have died in a river boat accident during the civil war. There were 5 known Martin Ulrich's in the Union Army. One was in the Missouri Light Artillery and one was in the Ohio Infantry. Both of these regiments were close enough to Jasper County, Illinois for Martin to have joined either one. Further research is needed. This book also stated that Louis died "while still young". If Martin left and never returned who raised Isidore and Michael. The History states that Joseph was adopted by a family named Helming, but it does not state who took care of the other two boys after Martin disappeared. Isidore would have been 10 or 11 and Michael would have been 3 or 4.
