Note:   The 1860 census states that Michael's parents came from France; however, the 1910 and 1920 census records state that his parents came from Germany. The family was from the Bhas-Rhin area of France which belonged to Germany or France depending upon the year and the politics at the time. He is 3 years old in 1860 and both parents are still alive. A very extensive history of the Ulrich family from Michael and Mary Claire can be found in the History of Pulaski County, Illinois. In 1870, he is 12 years old and lives with the Bartholomay family in St. Marie Township. He works on the farm and goes to school during the school year. The Bartholomay's are a fairly wealthy family. Their farm is valued at $1800 and his personal estate is valued at $700. Michel and Mary Bartholomay's has 6 children of their own and a servant girl to help in the house. Michel stays with the Bartholom ay's until he gets married. The 1900 census stated he was born March 1861. He is 50 in 1910 and states that he has been married for 24 years. He states that his farm is rented. In 1920 He is 59 years old and states that he owns his farm.
