Notes
a. Note:   H349
Note:   Cornelius's son's birth certificate states that Cornelius was born in Jasper County, Illinois. Possible proof that Michael moved from Indiana to Kentucky then to Jasper County before moving to Pulaski County. Cornelius' death certificate and his son's birth certificate are another example of the discrepancies found in the certificates in Pulaski County. The records from St. Paul's Church in New Alsace, Indiana, which were microfilm by the LDS state that Cornelius was born October 24, 1869 and baptized October 31, 1869. In 1900, he says he is 30 years old. His mother Josephine keeps house for him. His brothers Richard, Edward, & Anthony are living with him. He is a widower with a 6 year old daughter -- Mary. He owns his farm and it is free of a mortgage. He also states that he was born in Indiana. In 1910, he is 39 years old and has been married to Effie Corzine for 5 years. Effie's brother is living on the farm with them. He states that this is his second marriage. His first wife died from complications of measles. In 1920 he is 50 years and still farming. When Cornelius died in 1925, he did not leave a will. John Ervin was appointed administrator of Cornelius' estate. A report filed by Mr. Ervin stated that Cornelius' estate was insufficient to pay the claims against the estate. Claims totaling $4662.99 were presented against the estate. The following is confusing to this writer. Effie Egner signed a document releasing her "homestead and dower rights" to Cornelius' farm. This property was advertised for sale in order to pay the debts of Cornelius' estate. During the sale, Effie made the highest bid and bought the property for $1500.00. Effie had received $337 shortly after Cornelius' death as part of the "widow's award". After the sale of the property, Effie received $212.00 for Cornelius' funeral expenses and $1162.80 as the "balance of the widow's award". If this writer understands all the documents and if all documents regarding Cornelius' estate were copied, Effie not only purchased and owns Cornelius' farm but she also got back the money she used to purchase the farm. What a lady!!
