Notes
a. Note:   H1150
Note:   In 1860, he is 7 years old and living with John Richards and Richards' family in Jasper Township, Jasper County, Illinois. February 20, 1865, he becomes the ward of his brother, George Rude. This guardianship will continue until he becomes 21 years old. March 15, 1877, Israel received $19.82 as his share of his brother James' estate which meant he had become 21 years old. In 1880, he is 23 and living on his brother George's farm in South Muddy Township, Jasper County, Illinois. He is working as a laborer. He states that he was born in Indiana but the 1860 census says he was born in Illinois. In 1910, he is 55 years old and the census lists his name as Isidor. He says he was born in Indiana and his parents came from Pennsylvania. His mother-in-law Josephine Egner is living with them. His brother Thomas is living with them also. Thomas is 61 years old, widowed, and says that he has been married twice. In 1920, he is 64 years old and his name is listed as Israel. The children listed on the census and his wife's name match those listed on the 1920 census. Again he states he was born in Indiana but is not sure of his parent's place of birth. His daughter Myrtle; his son Esau, Esau's wife Ethel, their daughter Josephine are all living with Kate & Israel. In 1930, he is identified as A. J. Rhude. He is 74 years old and said he was married for 40 years. He rents his farm. His son Israel & Israel's family is living with them. Kay Miller and her mother Glenda Mowery have written an Egner family history. In it they list four children for Israel & Kate: Israel, Leo, George, & Myrtle. The 1910 census lists Morrits, Leo, & Myrtle. The 1920 census lists Esau & Myrtle. Kay stated that George was 18 months old when he died. This must have happened before 1910 since he does not appear in the 1910 census. Kay also stated that Israel married Ethel Ervin. The 1920 census identifies Esau's wife as Ethel. According to Gene Ulrich, Esau was Israel's nickname. I didn't know of the Ishmael Rhude / Egner connection. I do remember that he lived between the Friendship School House and the Crisman home up the hill. At some time in the early 1940's my Dad was helping Mr. Rude clear stumps from some of the 'bottom land. My Dad, Olen Britt, said he they were dynamiting tree stumps and he had counted five stumps in the air at one time. That was in the days before synthetic fibers replaced furs to help us stay warm in cold weather and a number of people enjoyed fox hunting. Ish kept at least one pair of large fox hounds. The hunters always hoped the hounds would circle about and allow them to pick up the dogs and get home that day or night. If a dog or dogs didn't come around to be picked up and the hunters had to depart they might leave a piece of clothing that their dog would recognize and stay with it until they could be collected. Of course, that exposed them to the chance of being stolen before their owner's return. By Lenneth Britt
