Note:   Elam was a War of 1812 war hero. He served with Winfield Scott and was at the Siege of Fort Erie, the Battle of Chippewa, wounded at the battle of Lundy's Lane. He came to Gasconade Co. , St. Louis, in 1838, having left Ohio in 1836. After many adventures he became a pioneer on the Oregon Trail and a famous settler in Oregon. Many colleges and streets are named after him and his family members there.
