No one knows for sure what her name was and the Jones name probably came from the fact that he was married for "one night" to Faithy A. Jones, daughter of Abraham and Celey (Allred) Jones, after the death of his first wife. If his first wife was a Jones, she was probably a sister of Abraham Jones. Abraham Jones named his daughter Alice after Noah's mother and Noah named his daughter Celia after Abraham's wife. Then Abraham named his son Noah Bost Jones. No one has any idea as to the real connection between Noah Bost and Abraham Jones. (information provided by Brad Walker, geneaologist at the Magness Memorial Library, McMinnville, TN and ggg grandson of Abigail Moffitt and William Coppinger.) From "Tennessee Tidbits 1778-1914," Vol. III, by Marjorie Hood Fischer and Ruth Blake Burns: Boss, Noah -- was granted a divorce from Faithly Boss on 29 September 1855 for disertion. They were (married) in 1840 or 1841). They lived together about four months when she left him and refused to return. (War TN, Ch Ct Min,2/111) Transcribed by Bradley Walker, July 4th, 2004 Grundy County, Clerk and Master Minute Book A - Sept. 1856 - Oct. 1869, p. 63, 64, 65 September Term 1859 Alice Bost Against Noah Bost Be it Remembered that this cause came on to be heard on this the 30th day of September 1859 before the Honorable Seth J. W. Lucky Chancellor upon the Bill, answer and proof of the cause. Where it appeared to the Court, Complainant - was the widow of John Bost - deceased and that upon that death of her husband she was entitled to dower in the One hundred acres of land mentioned in that pleadings. It further appeared that complainant lived on the said tract, the homestead after the death of her husband, with the defendant who was her son in law - and that during that time she being a woman of advanced age Transferred to the defendant - her dower interest in said land in consideration that the defendant would support and take care of complainant - during her life and as a further consideration at the time for said dower the defendant executed to complainant his note for $68.78. It further appeared that at some time subsequently to this contract the said note was delivered up to defendant and shortly after complainant became dissatisfied and refused to live any longer at the house of defendant in consequence of bad and immoral conduct which was permitted by the defendant on the premises in the presence and hearing of complainant. It further appeared that complainant is not now nor has not for some time been living with the defendant nor has he been supporting her since she left his house except the money or sums he has paid by the orders of this court and that the defendant now refuses to support her unless she will return and live with him on the premises therefore upon the whole case the court is of opinion that the complainant transferred her dower interest in said land to the defendant in consideration of said note for $68.78 and for the further consideration that the defendant was to support and take care of complainant during her life, it is ordered adjudged and decreed by the court that the defendant is comed to carry out his contract in good faith with complainant by supporting her during life, wither by taking her home to his house and furnishing her with the necessary comforts of life, or to pay from time to time a sufficient sum for that purpose, and to affect all. But object the matter to the clerk and master to go and see whether a suitable arrangement can be made with the defendant upon complainants returning to his house which shall be satisfactory to the parties but in the event no such arrangement can be made within three months then the Master will take proof and report what would be a reasonable sum annually for the support and maintenance for complainant and what to the next term of this court. It is further ordered in the maintenance that $25.00 be allowed to complainant for-her support till the next term of this court - unless a suitable arrangement can be made by the Master as directed by this decree in the event no such arrangement can make within three months, the defendant will pay to the Clerk and Master the said amount of $25.00 in default of which execution may issue. It is further ordered that the defendant pay the costs of this cause for which let execution issue. From which decree the defendant prays and obtains an appeal to the next Supreme Court to be held on the First Monday in December next in the city of Nashville upon his giving bond and security for costs and he is allowed one month to give said bond. ************************* Since the above lawsuit was brought to my attention I have thought long and hard on the matter and I believe the following: 1. Other that the fact that Alice was married to John when he died there is no mention of her. 2. It is my belief that Noah married Alice's daughter then his dad (John) met Alice and married. 3. This would mean that she was his mother-in-law and also his stepmother. (Since Noah was first her son- in law she would always think of him as such.) - - James Hill ***************************** This spelling of this document has not been correct but is as written.
