Notes
a. Note:   1830 Census, Warren Co., TN: William Killian, 2110001-021001 1 male 40-50 1 female 30-40 1 male 10-15 1 female 10-15 1 male 5-10 2 females 5-10 2 males under 5 William appears in the 1840 Census, for Dade Co., GA The following notes are by George W. Killian: The date of marriage to Elizabeth is from Marriage Bonds of Lincoln Co., NC. Marriage given as both 23 & 26 Dec 1816 The information on his descendants is from a scroll I have had for many years, but had not identified it as relating to this man. I do not know how or when or from whom I got the scroll. The answer to that question came in Jan 2001 as a result of an exchange of information among several people via e-mail. Eventually it led to Emma Jo HARMON RIN 38600 who is the one who prepared the scroll. We talked on the phone and I anticipate a further exchange of information. It was William Lee HINDS RIN 5913 who gave the connection from This William to Samuel C. KILLIAN RIN 61, son of Andreas RIN 51. Emmas Jo HARMON does not agree with this. But later I believe she came to believe and accept it. His middle name is known at "T" and believed by some to be Thomas. Above is a note of some concern about the identity of his parents. Note that his Daughter, Elizabeth RIN 38500, has a son, William Samuel RIN 8881. This is some indication of the grandfather's name being Samuel. William and his younger brother, Samuel, went to Tennessee about 1817, then to Dade Co, Georgia in the 1830s together where they owned land jointly in Warren Co. TN. Two other siblings came at the same time, Barbara and Sarah. This information from Thomas Eugene KILLIAN RIN 19821. David KILLIAN RIN 1153 a child of Samuel C KILLIAN RIN 61 moved to Dade Co, Georgia some time before 1850. !TOMBSTONE: Baptist Cem per Thomas Eugene KILLIAN RIN 19821 his tombstone has on William Killian, not the "T" The tombstone is said to have a death date other than the family record of 29 Dec 1843. I think it means the tombstone says 1845. These dates can rule out the children with the second wife. (End George Killian note) The middle name "Thomas" comes from an article written by M. Luther Killian 14 Aug 1996. He cites "The History of Dade County, Georgia," written in 1981 to say that "William Thomas Killian moved his family from McMinnville, Tennessee in the 1830's and settled in the area presently known as Rising Fawn, Georgia. The only other white family in the area at that time was a Mr. Tanner. There were a few Cherokee Indians who lived in "huts." Thus, William and Elizabeth settled in the future Dade County shortly before the infamous "Trail of Tears," the forced removal of the Cherokees to the Indian Territory (later Oklahoma Territory, then Oklahoma), and this prior to the influx of white settlers. After Elizabeth died in 1841 William remarried to Arlenia Hale. Their first child, a boy, died at birth or shortly thereafter. Their second child, Ann, died at the age of 13. Their third child, Samuel Douglas Killian, was born after the death of William, and shortly before the death of his mother, who may have died in childbirth or as a result of complications. William, Elizabeth, and Orlenia are buried in the Baptist Cemetery on U.S. Highway 11 just north of Trenton. There is an unmarked grave next to Orlenia, which could be the grave of her unnamed first son. (note by Heather Bailey)
