a. Note:   Referred to by the Wilkerson family as Little Grandpa because he was somewhat smaller in stature than his son John W. Wilkerson, Jr. Neither he, nor his son may have realized that his father was also named John W. Wilkerson (d. Sept 19, 1863at Chicamauga). Obituary: JOHN WILLIAM WILKERSON, aged 88, Hensley, died in a Little Rock hospital Saturday. He was a member of the Methodist church in Texas. Survivors are six sons, John W. Jr., Samuel and Luther of Little Rock. Thomas and Jim of Hensley and C.J. of Bauxite, a daughter, Mrs. J.C. Derrick, Little Rock; 55 grand-children, 102 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held by Rev. Guy B. Wilson and Rev. Luther Bradford at the Salem cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday. Pallbearers will be Cecil, Orville, Samuel, Clyde and Wiley Dickinson and Walter Derrick. Burial will be in Salem cemetery by Griffin Leggett. August 1948. The Texas Methodist Chruch would have been in Van Zandt County, Texas.
