Note: siding in Lebanon, NJ, Maththias Pickle enlisted in June, 1778 and served at various times on monthly tours until 1781, at least 8 mo. and 14 days in all as a private under Capt. Benjamin Cooper and Nicholas Pickle (no relationship to the solider shown) and Capt. John Taylor. From a family letter regarding Ancestor's Services. :Served as a Private, Hunterdon County Militia, under Captains Jones, Cooper and Pickle; served monthly tours from 1778-1781; was at the Revolt of the Pennsylvania Line Troops, January 1781. Resident of Hunterdon County, New jersey; 16 years of age in 1778, making birth year, 1762; resided in Morris County, New Jersey, in 1833. Copy-Original on file in the Records and Pension office Washington, D.C. Invalid #3700 Matthias Pickle was born May 10, 1762, in Lebanon, Hunterdon County, New Jersey. While residing in said Lebanon, New Jersey, he enlisted in June 1778 and served at various times on monthly tours until in 1781, at least eight months and fourteen days in all, as a private under Captains Benjamin Cooper and Nicholas Pickle (no relationshyip to soldier shown) and Col. John Taylor in the New Jersey Troops, and was in the battle of Millstone and in a severe skirmish at Middlebrook, both in New Jersey. He was allowed pension on his application executed September 25, 1833 while rewsiding in Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey. He stated that he had resided in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, ever since the Revolution, until about six months previous to his application for pension when he had moved to the said Roxbury Township, Morris County, New Jersey.
Note: Matthias Pickle is listed on page 533 of the DAR Patriot Index with the ranking of PVT NJ. His wife was listed as Adeline Searle. Matthias was in his 73rd year when he died. His monument was "Erected by his daughter Elizabeth Pickel". While re
