a. Note:   From the Hunterdon County Demorcrate Thrusday Sept. 25, 1969 pg. 21 Prominent Bloomsbury businessman, Earl D. H. Pickel of 22 Center Street, died Thursday (Sept. 18, 1969) in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg. He was 66 years old and had been ill for nine months. Mr. Pickel was a former councilman and mayor of Bloomsbury and was president of the J.S. Pickel hardware, farm machinery and applicance business form many years. He served as councilman for several terms before becoming mayor in 1946. He later was Bloomsbury welfare director until his retirement in July. He was also a member of the Hunterdon County shade tree commission. Mr. Pickel was born in Bethlehem Township, a son of the late John S. and Vesta Reiss Piciel. He attended Hampton High School and Churchman Business College in Easton, PA. Prior to entering the J.S. Pickel business he was a general insurance agent. Mr. Pickel was a member of the Bloomsbury Methodist Church and was secretary of its church school for many years. He was a member and past master of Bethlehem Lodge No. 140 F & AM; a member of Easton Forest 35, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and a member of Bloomsbury Fire Company. Surviving are his widow Mrs. Marian Shrope Pickel, a son, E. Douglas of Bloomsbury; a brother John C. of Philadelphia and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday from the Rush Funeral Home, Bloomsbury, in Bloomsbury United Methodist Church. Rev. Forrest Shue pastor of the Bloomsbury United Methodist Church, officiated and interment was in Bloomsbury Cemetery.
