a. Note:   Born in Connecticut, Harry moved with his parents to San Rafael, California in about 1888.

 By 1904 the family had moved to 1830 12th Ave. South, in San Francisco.
 The 1904 directory shows Harry (age 18) and his brother Eddie (age 16) working at Tubbs Cordage Co. and living with their parents.
 The 1910 directory indicates Henry (Harry) was a tanner and the family had moved to 2075 17th Ave. South.
 By 1913 Harry was on his own living at 1591 Underwood Ave.
 By 1914 Harry with his new wife Ursule and baby daughter Alma were living at 1731 Oakdale Ave.
 In 1917 Harry and Ursule are shown living at 2075 Quesada Ave.
 In the 1918 and 1919 directories, following the breakup of his 1st. marriage, Harry was shown as an Iron Worker and was living at his parents home at 1647 Kirkwood Ave.

 Harry registered for the WWI draft on June 5, 1917.
 At the time his residence was 1647 Kirkwood Ave., San Francisco, CA
 he stated his occupation as Iron Worker at the Union Iron Works at 20th & Illinois, in San Francisco.
 He also indicated he was married with a child (Ursule & Alma).
 Harry's physical description was tall, medium build, with brown eyes and brown hair.

 Soon after Harry became a soldier in WWI and served in France where he met and married his 2nd. wife Fabienne.

 An Immigration record at Ellis Island indicates that Harry arrived with his wife Fabienne on May 21, 1924. They had departed Bordeaux, France on May 9, 1924 and had traveled aboard the La Bourdonnais. Harry stated his U.S. address was at 1647 Kirkwood Ave., San Francisco, CA.

 They moved to Chicago, Illinois, and according to his son Rene, Harry may have been engaged the business of boot-legging during the ill-fated prohibition movement.
 In 1927 the family moved back to France, and while on the ship thier son, Rene, was born.

 By 1930 Harry and family had returned to San Francisco, and are cited on the census living at 1015 Phelps.
 43 year old Harry stated he was a tanner, a veteran of the World War, and they were renting their San Francisco home for $25 per month. He and Fabienne said they had been married 11 years and their son Rene was 3 years, 1 month old. (San Francisco, San Francisco Co., California E.D. 37, Sheet 5-A).

 The family was listed in the city directory in 1932 as a tanner and living at 1015 Phelps with (Pheobe) Fabienne and a Carl Aufort who was a butcher.
 In 1934 Harry and family had moved to 1410 Lane St. and remained at that address until 1949 when Harry was indicated as a mechanic. Harry does not show up in the next directory.

 Harry also registered for the WWII draft at the age of 55.
 At that time he was working as a shipbuilder for Bethelehem Steel at 20th & Illinois St., SF, CA.
 His residence was shown as 1410 Lane St. in San Francisco, CA.
 His signature appears at the bottom of the card.

 According to Rene, in his later years Harry moved to Sunol, Alameda Co., California where he ran a wine & beer establishment until his late 70's. He remained in Sunol until his death on February 12, 1966 at age 79.
 Harry, a WWI Veteran, is buried at National Cemetery in San Bruno, California.

 AUFORT, Harry L. - In Livermore, Feb. 12, 1966, Harry L. dearly beloved husband of Fabienne Aufort, devoted father of Alma Wise and Rene Aufort, idolized grandfather of Renee and Richard Aufort; A member of the American Legion, and V.F.W.; aged 79 years.
 Funeral Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. from GANTNER-FELDER-KENNY Chapel, 1965 Market street at Duboce avenue, thence to Corpus Christi Church where a requiem Mass will be offered at 9:00 a.m. Interment Golden Gate National Cemetery. Rosary Monday evening at 8 o'clock.
