Notes
a. Note:   After serving a mandatory military stint in the French Army Joseph left the army just prior to WWI. When the war did finally errupt Joseph fled to South America and later to the U.S.
 -
Joseph had three brothers Jack, Clement and another brother who died in battle near the end of WWII .
 -
Alma (Joseph's step-daughter) recalls a time when her parents, Joseph and Ursule went to a Christmas show at Alma's school, when Alma was a little girl. As the show progressed Joseph left early and went back to the house. When Joseph got there he placed Alma's Christmas toys up on the roof all around the chimney which was too small for Santa. Joseph went back to the school to finish watching the show. Alma says that they drove home in an open "touring" car and it was one of those cold clear nights. When they neared the house Joseph said "Look there goes Santa !". Alma looked into the night sky and could have sworn she saw him. Then Joseph pointed out the toys Santa had left on the roof. Joseph loved children and would indulge them whenever he could.

JOSEPH SOUBIROU.-The enterprising manager of the French-American laundry of Chico, Joseph Soubirou, was born in Oloron, Basses-Pyrénées, France, on August 23, 1884. He was raised on his father’s farm, and received his education in the public schools of his native land, after which he served for one year in the French army, being enrolled in the Eighteenth Regiment of Infantry. After the expiration of his period of service, he remained with his father until 1910, when he embarked for America and came to San Francisco.
Soon after his arrival in America, Mr. Soubirou entered the laundry business, an enterprise in which, by personal industry and the application of modern business methods, he has since won a marked degree of success. In 1916, he came to Chico and purchased an interest in the French-American Laundry, where he is carrying on a prosperous and growing business. The laundry is located at 741 Broadway, and is a modern establishment, equipped with the latest machinery. It has steam boilers and is supplied with both electric and gas power. It maintains an auto system of delivery, thus facilitating the work of collection and distribution. Mr. Soubirou is one of the three partners in the company, and is manager of the business. He is an enterprising and public-spirited business man; and his courtesy and square-dealing have already won for him a high place in the esteem of the community, and have contributed materially to the growth of his business. In politics, Mr. Soubirou supports the candidates of the Republican party.
