Notes
a. Note:   Alfred owned and operated the family's Ogdensburg brickyard until the Depression of the 1920's - 1930's caused it to close down. Alfred's grand daughter Shirley remembered visiting with her grandparents when she was a small child, at the brickyard. She recalled that Alfred (Fred) would capture fish for her and put them in a bath tub so she could see them swim around. Alfred and Ella raised four boys together in Ogdensburg.

ALFRED PAIGE, FORMER BRICK MAKER, DIES
Ogdensburg Journal, Monday January 22, 1940
The death of Alfred Smith Paige, one of the city's best known and highly respected residents, occurred Sunday about 6:15 p.m. at his home, 4 Mill St., after an illness of 21 months.
Mr. Paige was a descendant of one of the city's pioneer families. For many years he carried on the brick business started by his grandfather Smith Paige, more than 100 years ago. About 15 years Mr. Paige gave up the operation of Paige's brickyard, located on Henry Street just off the Canton Road, to enter the lumber business.
Until a few years ago Mr. Paige was in charge of gangs of men engaged in cutting wood on various wood lots throughout the county for the Algonquin Paper Mill here. He was greatly admired by all his employees and always worked along with them. A foreman who had worked with Mr. Paige and his father Alfred Augustus Paige, today remarked that Mr. Paige "never would send a man where he would not go himself."
Many of the buildings in St. Lawrence County were constructed from the brick that came from Paige's brickyard, it was recalled here today. The bricks for the first buildings erected at the St. Lawrence State Hospital was all made at Paige's mills, which in those days employed about 20 men. Clay was dug from the many little ponds that dot that vicinity and was then molded and baked at Paige's mill. Many of the buildings along the Ford St. business section and the Methodist church of this city were constructed from Paige's brick.
When Smith Paige died the business was taken over by his two sons, Alfred Agustus Paige and Wesley Paige, who operated it under the name of Paige Brothers. The business thrived for 35 years and upon the death of the two brothers it was carried on by Alfred Augustus Paige's son, Alfred.
Alfred Smith Paige was born in Ogdensburg Oct. 31, 1872, the son of the late Alfred and Susan Hewitt Paige. His marriage to Miss Ella Reed took place Dec. 10, 1902.
Surviving besides his wife are four sons, Capt. H. Reed Paige of Paris Island, South Carolina; Carl S. Paige of Gouverneur and John H. and Ward T. Paige of New York City. Three sisters, Mrs. Lincoln E. Lewis and Miss Josephine Paige of this city, and Mrs. John J. Richards of Staten Island, also survive.
Funeral services will be held from his home Wednesday at 2 p.m., the Rev. Theophilus Wells officiating. The body will be placed in the vault in Ogdensburg Cemetery to await spring burial.
NOTE: The original article mistakenly cites Alfred's father as Alfred Smith Paige, and I have correctly transcribed as
Alfred Augustus Paige, also Alfred Smith Paige's birthday was not October 21 per the original article, it was corrected as October 31, 1872
