 Ogdensburg
 Ward Tallman Paige, husband of the former Virginia Stearns and a native of Ogdensburg, died in a hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., at 8 am., Tuesday (Oct. 24, 1967). He had been in ill health for several months.
 - The family resides at Park Ridge, a suburb of Chicago. Mr. Paige, who was in his mid-fifties, was associated with the Union Bag & Paper Co., with offices in Chicago.
 Mrs. Paige's father, Dr. Melvin J. Stearns of this city, and her brother, Dr. Colby S. Stearns of Hartford, Conn., flew to Park Ridge. Mrs. Paige's mother is a patient in Hepburn Hospital for eye surgery and could not attend the funeral.
 Surviving Mr. Paige, besides his wife, are three children, Jean, 18, Ward Jr., 15, and Polly, 9; his mother, Mrs. Alfred S. (Ella) Paige, who resides with another son in Rome; N.Y.; three brothers, Major General H. Reid Paige, USMC, retired, who lives in California, Carl Paige, superintendent of schools at Rome, N. Y., and John H. Paige, an executive with the Telephone Company in Milwaukee.
 Ward Tallman Paige Was born in Ogdensburg, one of four sons of Ella Reed Paige and the late Alfred S. Paige. He was graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy, and from Colgate University where he was active in sports, including football, track and lacrosse. Also, while at Colgate, he attended the Officers Training School at Quantico, Va. He worked for the Colgate - Palmolive - Peet Company for three years before joining the Marine Corps in February, 1941.
 He served for more than a year in the Panama Canal Zone, with a barrage balloon unit, prior to being sent to the Pacific Theatre in World War II. His service with the famed 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific was distinguished. He was a veteran of Tarawa, Kwajalein, Saipan, Tinian and Okinawa. On Kwajalein he was a forward observer with the 23rd Regiment. He was awarded the Bronze Star for the excellent training he had given his pioneer battalion which was responsible for their outstanding performance on the beaches of Saipan. His Division received the Presidential Unit Citation at Tarawa.
 Mr. Paige married Virginia Jane Stearns on April 26, 1947 in the First Presbyterian Church of Ogdensburg. The bride's uncle, the Rev. Albert D. Stearns of Marcellus, officiated, assisted by the Rev. Melville D. Nesbit Jr., then Pastor of the church. Before her marriage, Mrs. Paige had served for two years as a recreational director with the American Red Cross in the China, Burma, India Theatre. The Paige's lived first in Detroit but have resided in Park Ridge for a number of years.

  The family resided at 908 S. Courtland Ave., Park Ridge, Illinois (outside of Chicago) in 1967.

  Ward was born on Halloween as was his father. He graduated from Colgate University in 1937. He joined the Marines as a 2nd Lt. and retired with the rank of Major following 3 1/2 years of service in the Pacific.
  Ward was almost buried a live in the Pacific Campaign of WWII, while fighting as a Marine.
  After his military career Ward pursued a career with Colgate-Palmolive and with Union Camp Paper Co. as a company representative and spent a lot of time on the road in this capacity.
  Ward has a son named Ward Paige who flies for Hawaiian Airlines and lives in Hawaii.
