Note: E u l o g y WILMA MAXINE CALLAHAN-JENKINS 22 June 1924 - 27 August 1996 The Best God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around you and whispered "come with me". With tearful eyes we watched you, we watched you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us, he chose to take the best. Wilma Maxine Callahan-Jenkins, beloved wife, mother, sister,grandmother, great grandmother passed away peacefully at her home inJamestown, CA on 27 August, with her family at her side. She issurvived by her husband, Thurman "Red" Jenkins; her sons Robert L.Callahan and his wife Pat of Newhall, George W. Callahan and his wifeConnie of Patterson, and Dale Stephen Callahan of Patterson; and herdaughter Tammy Monego and her husband John of Brentwood. Alsosurvived by her sisters Juanita Boyson of Ceres and Elgeva Burton ofOakdale, and brothers Robert "Pete" Durham of Modesto and Jerry Durhamof Arnold, and half sister Darlene Dean of Jamestown. She waspreceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Vondolee DeWittCallahan, her father Luther Durham, mother Ruby Jane Brizendine Durhamand brother James Durham. In addition she is survived by ninegrandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephewsand cousins. Maxine was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on 22 June 1924. When shewas just a few months old her family returned to Tennessee by trainwhere she remained until she was twelve. Her family then movedbriefly to Tucson and in 1936 they settled in California. She met Vondolee Callahan while they both worked at the VallejoShipyard. After their marriage in 1943, they settled in Pattersonwhere she remained until her four children were grown. Maxine was anemployee of Patterson Frozen Foods for many years. In 1986 she moved to Jamestown to care for her ailing father, LutherDurham. After the her father's death Maxine met and recentlymarried "Red" Jenkins. She enjoyed bowling and was a member ofseveral leagues in both Modesto and Jamestown, and participated withher husband in the Sonora Moose Lodge. She also enjoyed gardening andthe outdoors. Most important to her was her family, especially herhusband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters andbrothers. Her sons Robert, George and Steve, son-in-law John and brothers Jerryand Pete will serve as pallbearers and her grandsons, Kevin, RobertJr., Kirk, Eric, Joshua, and Michael and nephew DeWitton Callahanwill serve as honorary pallbearers. Maxine was a beautiful, vibrant person, loved by all, young and old.She will be sadly missed, but never forgotten, by her family and manyfriends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent tothe Visiting Nurses and Hospice, P. O. Box 4805, Sonora, CA95370-1805.
