Notes
a. Note:   "I don't remember hearing my father talk much of his boyhood. When my grandfather Rosenberger and grandmother Hadley were married, they made quite a large family, so the boys were placed with other families. Hence, I think my father's education was gained mostly through self education. The first work I know of was when he was employed by the Singer Sewing Machine, Co.,. in Indianapolis. Later he worked in a saw mill, was a miller in two different grist mills, then owned and ran a tile mill. Last he came to Colfax, Indiana and started a grocery store. He was still in that work when he was accidently struck by a train and killed." - Maude Rosenberger (1874- ?), Colfax, Indiana
Note: Joseph S. Rosenberger married his step-sister Florence H. Hadley (daughter of Almyrah Griest Hadley Rosenberger, second wife of father James Henry Rosenberger.) Oh, those wacky Quakers -RDR 10/02
