Continued: 1st h. CLAUDE BAILEY Claude Bailey, husband of Helen Brown Bailey, formerly of Elizabethtown, passed away at the Benedict Memorial hospital in Ballston Spa, his home town, on Wednesday afternoon, September 10, 1941, after a long and painful illness. He was born December 2, 1895, one of the ten children born to the late George W. Bailey and Lydia Post Bailey of Ballston Spa. He received his education in the public schools of Ballston. While a young man he and a friend spent several years traveling thru the western and central states, working in various sections and thus he obtained a first hand knowledge of many of the labor conditions and problems which have confronted the nation, as well as having the enjoyment of seeing much of his own country. On his return towards the east he spent two years with the Dodge Motor Company in Detroit, Mich. Mr. Bailey was inducted into service in the first world war on September 5, 1918, at La Salle, Ill a private in 4th Com., 161st Depot Brig., .U.S.A., to serve for period of the emergency. Also served in Co. A,4th Bat. Inf. Replacement, Camp McArthur, at Waco, Texas, Hon. discharge March 10, 1919, by reason of demobilization. After returning to New York State Mr. Bailey was employed for a time on building construction to build one of the wings at the Albany hospital, and later helped in building the Central Warehouse at Colonie and Montgornery streets, Albany. Following the completion of the warehouse he waa employed there as a shipper and later was given charge of the fur storage . department, which position he held at the time of his collapse on January 7, 1941, and since which time he had been seriously ill. On November 11, 1928, Claude Bailey was united in marriage, at her home in Elizabethtown, to Helen Durand Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George L. Brown. They lived for a number of years in Albany, but for the last four years in Rensselaer. Besides his widow, Mr. Bailey is survived by three children, Charles, Dorothy and James. Also four brothers, Abraham and Everett of Ballston Spa.; Henry of New London, Conn.; George W. of Canajoharie; four sisters, Ethel I Bailey, Mrs. William Boerner, Mrs. Clancy Denton of Ballston; Mrs. Philip Wilson of Stillwater, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Bailey was a devoted husband and father, a home man, and known to his wide circle of .friends and acquaintances as an exceptionally friendly man. He was careful, painstaking and dependable in all work which he might undertake. The community has lost a good citizen. Funeral services were held at the Bailey homestead, a farm just outside Ballston, on Friday, September 12, conducted by Rev. Mr. Freestone of the Baptist church of Ballston. This service was preceded on Thursday evening by a service held by Joseph Fagan Post, No. 243, American Legion, of Albany, of which Mr. Bailey was a member. He also was a member of I.O.O.F., Kayaderosseras No. 270. Interment was in the Bailey family lot in Ballston by the side of his parents. Sincere sympathy is extended to the surviving relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Stevens and son Durand, accompanied by Mrs. George L. Brown and James Bailey, also Mr. and Mrs. Claude Saunders and Charles and Dorothy Bailey of Ticonderoga motored to Ballston Spa Friday to attend the funeral of Claude Bailey, who passed away at the hospital in Ballston Spa last Wednesday.
