Notes
a. Note:   PROVENCHER, Moise Naissance: 10 FEB 1831, St-Francois-du-Lac, Yamaska, QC
 Baptême: 10 FEB 1831, St-Francois-du-Lac, Yamaska, QC
Par/mar: Joseph Côté et Louise Laforet.
  Fred,
Today I came across the details of 3 PROVENCHER baptisms and 2 PROVENCHER
marriages at Sacred Coeur de Jesus, Stanstead, PQ in the mid-1800's all
involving residents of either Derby Line or Irasburg, both in Orleans
County, VT. One was Paul P. domiciled at Irasburg and s/o Alexis & the
deceased Angelique COTE who married Olive BEHAN of the same city, at Sacre
Coeur on 8 June 1852. One of the witnesses was Moise P.
Are you interested in more on any of these sacraments.
 Jerry
Here we go. But first, the source. Virginia E. Demarce, PhD and CG got the
LDS microfilms of 9 parishes in the Eastern Townships (Richilieu Valley) of
Quebec for the early and mid 1800's and extracted all of the sacraments that
involved a U.S resident...this might have been as broad as John Doe "des
Etats-Unis". They were then published as a series of articles in the
now-defunct "Lost in Canada" published by Joy Reisinger, CG. Roger Lawrence,
PhD, co-founder and many times past president of ACGS, Manchester, NH which
is arguably the best Franco gen. soc. in the US, indexed them but made only
one copy which I found in the ACGS library during my very recent trip to New
England. With Roger's encouragement I bootlegged the copy when the library
closed at 9 PM the Sat of the annual ACGS conference, spent 2 hours at
Kinko's copying the bound 208 pages, and returned the book to the shelves
when the library opened at 9 AM Sun morning. Subsequently I told Joy what I
did but Virginia doesn't answer e-mail from anybody. So you have to
consider this a secondary source but you have all the details you need to go
to the primary source. My product is in English but I believe some of the
primary records were in French. All of the following are from the records of
Sacre Coeur de Jesus, Stanstead, PQ which you'll find about 2 miles from
Derby/Derby Line, VT and maybe 15 from Irasburg, VT. To save my fingers, P =
PROVENCHER throughout, no variances like your moniker. It is apparent from
other names that Virginia, Joy or Roger copied the name as it appeared in
the parish records..and if it was a badly mutilated name those folks put the
right name in parenthesis. That didn't happen with your folks.
