  Notes about Camilla Klute Lipic:
Mother's Day was started by a West Virginia woman, Anna Jarvis, in 1907. This same year Camilla Caroline Klute is born, and in 1914 President Woodrow Wilson made Mother's Day official. Camilla Klute Lipic is 7 years old when this official act takes place in Washington D.C.
Mothers can be very special people and often bring special memories to mind.
This is certainly true of Camilla Lipic. I had the pleasure of working with Camilla, we were both employed by the man, her son, Joseph Lipic the third,a person that made each day a special day, and the person who inspired me to get serious about family history research.
I found Camilla in the 1930 St. Louis city directory, while attempting to get brushed up on the 1930 census records. She is 20 years old and I've seen photos of the young Camilla, her beauty still shines through, even now as she approaches her 95th birthday.
This was some three years before becoming Mrs. Joseph Lipic II. She was living at 5407 Milentz Avenue in the home with her parents and working as a typist for A S Aloe Company. Her father, Charles A. Klute was a building contractor, her mother Matilda is mentioned in that city directory for the first time (since prior to 1930 only the head of household and those working, and living at the same address were listed). Living at home also was her brother Charles Jr., occupation bookkeeper for Electrol Inc.
Camilla Caroline Klute, the daughter of Charles August and Matilda Haldy Klute, is the mother of Joseph George Lipic III, and Robert John Lipic, and at the time of these notes in 2002 is matriarch of the Lipic family, here in St. Louis. She is unable to talk now, but is very aware of her surroundings and still has her affectionate smile.
Camilla, to those of us who have worked with her and have grown to affectionatley call her 'grandma', have great love and respect for her.
One day several years ago, someone asked her what her social security number was and I overheard them asking, before she could reply I called out 'one', and she said Jack Underwood I'll get you for that.
Her presence to this day adds to the richness of the occasion, for me, and I'm sure for many others.
Age is catching up to all of us and memories are a special gift to brighten our thoughts. It is sad to think that unless someone records those special memories they will be lost to our posterity. I recall some scattered memories of my great grandparents that have been passed along, but none are recorded except in those few notes I have been able to glean from those still living and able to recall, and those I jot down from time to time. I have personal poems, I have written, that help me recall the blessings I was given, shared with me by a loving father and mother. Camilla reminds me of those special blessings.
Readers Digest for many years has shared some of those thoughts in an article called 'My most unforgetable character'. Camilla certainly qualifies for some author to attempt to do her justice with an article like that, for she is and will always be 'unforgetable'.
I recall the first time my wife and I visited her beautiful home, here in St. Louis. Right in the entrance, the first thing you see, is a statue of Jesus with his fingers lifted, offering a blessing to all who cross the threshold, and there hung on those fingers were Camilla's keys. At every thought of that, I think of the old hymn "What a friend we have in Jesus". I believe this lady thinks that too.
Her son Joe has been blessed with some of those same qualities, and I always admired the way she seemed to stay out of his way as he ran his business. God only knows what went on when 'grandma' got a chance to get a word in edge wise.
One day Camilla fell as she was going downstairs at the office and put quite a dent in the wall, and Joe accused her of trying to tear the place down, once he had determined that she was alright, and hadn't broken any thing other than the plaster in the wall.
She is an example to all of us in staying busy and making our efforts count for something. I am refreshed by the memories of working with Camilla Klute Lipic. The memories are as fresh as morning dew and just as refreshing.
I recieved a call today, Wednesday January 29, 2003, Camilla has passed away. She made a difference in all the lives of those who knew and loved her.
