  1850 - In 1850 Henry County, Iowa State census there is a Richard Burtelow listed, married to Mary (Long) Burtelow, he is listed as 21 years old and she as 16 years old. They have a son Thomas A., 3 months old. As follows :

  Still looking for records from 1850 to July 21, 1854, when Richard marries Eliza Hagar at Perry County, Missouri.
  Interesting to note, Richard and Mary Long were married in Des Moines County, Iowa, which is next to Henry County, Iowa, he died during the Civil War at Keokuk County, Iowa, which is one county north of Henry County, Iowa.

  1855 - The daughter of Richard and Eliza, Mary Margaret Burtelow is born at Perryville, Perry County, Missouri on June 16, 1855. [she will not be baptized until August 15, 1862, after her mother's death, at St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church, in Perryville, Missouri] (see Mary Margaret's notes)
  1861 - Frederick Vincent Burtelow is born, October 1, 1861, in Perryville, Perry County, Missouri. (A copy of his birth records is in the Lipic Family Archives)
  1862 - Mary Margaret is baptized August 15, 1862, after her mother's death, at St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church, in Perryville, Missouri.
 On August 21, 1862 prior to joining the Union Army, Richard had his children bound over to their uncle, John Franklin Hagar.
 He was mustered into service on September, 9, 1862, Company "B" Regiment of Missouri Volunteers to serve 3 years or during the War (Civil War). He was mustered in as a corporal (that speaks well of capabilities) at Benton Barracks, Missouri.

  1863 - Richard died. Corporal in Company B, 30th Missouri Regiment Volunteer in the Civil War, Union Army, he died in Keokuk, Iowa while serving in the Civil War, of chronic dysentery. He is buried in the Keokuk National Cemetery, in section C, grave number 19. This information comes from an application for pension, number 47092, dated August 22, 1864, Adjutant General's Office, Washigton, D. C. and from the Keokuk National Cemetery Register, Department of Veterans Affairs.
  1864 - A petition is filed, March 1, 1864, for the guardianship of Margaret Burtelow, age 9 years old, and Frederick Vincent Burtelow, age 3 years old, by their uncle, John F. [Franklin] Hagar, stating their father died, September 3, 1963 and their mother, [Eliza Hager Burtelow] deceased at her residence in Perry County, Missouri.
  1870 - Perry County, Missouri census shows Maragaret Burtelow, age 15 years old and Frederick V. Burtelow living with John F. [Franklin] Hagar and his wife Elizabeth, in Perryville, Missouri.
