Note: Name: Nicholas Helfrich Given Name: Nicholas Surname: Helfrich Sex: Male Birth: May 1821 in Bavaria Death: 27 February 1906 in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Buried: St. Mary's (old section), Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania Immigration: 1848 Note: in 1850 Census, he listed his occupation as a carpenter. In the 1860 census, occupation was millwright; probably one of the many mills around the Sharpsburg area in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania where they lived. A millwright would build a mill, set up the equipment used for milling. At that time the Vesuvius Iron and Nail works was in full swing, and a short distance beyond the borough, the Tibby Brothers glass manufacturing, established in 1866, drew many men from Sharpsburg Borough. In 1880, Nicholas and his family lived on Sixth Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1900, (see below) Nicholas lived in the household of William J. Goebel and his family. He was 79, a widower, and still listed his occupations as a "wheelwright" say Norm Meinert, a friend of Gwen Helfrey (name changed from Helfrich), who inherited her notes. They may mean a "millwright". 1900 - William J.
