  URIAH M. UNDERWOOD
 Uriah M. Underwood, son of Amos and Mary Underwood, was born in Liberty Co., Ohio, the seventh of May 1854, and departed this life Feb, 28th 1929, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 24 days.
 He came to Cass county with his parents when but one year of age, and has spent his entire life here.
 He was the youngest of a family of eight children, all who have prededed him in death but one brother, Alfred Underwood, of Wakelee. On Dec. 25, 1873, he was united in marriage to Mary E. Humeston of Newberg. To this union were born two children, Roland B. Underwood of Three Rivers and Mrs. Joe McCully of Cassopolis. There are four grandchildren, Harold Underwood of Three Rivers, Mrs. Stephen Wright of Kalamazoo, Lloyd McCully of Bay City and Helen E. McCully of Cassopolis; also one great-granddaughter, little Betty Wright, of Kalamazoo. A grand-daughter, Marion Underwood, preceded him in death some years ago.
 He was a kind, loving, cheerful husband and father. Cassopolis County (MI) Courthouse death records said his vocation was carpenter. He was the son of Amos Underwood and Mary Embry. He died of "chronic intestinal influenza."
  His tombstone, shared with wife Mary, is in the Prarie Grove Cemetery, south of Penn Michigan on Penn Road. The marker is embellished with the Masonic symbol.
  The 1880 census shows his father, Amos at age 77. living with Uriah and Mary in Penn, MI.[Swartwouts-Gifford.ged.FTW]
  Uriah was a carptenter.
