Note: Oliver K. Tuton-my gg-grandfather came to Texas prior to 1850 with a new wife who was lot younger then him and settled in Austin County, Texas. That is where I found him on the 1850 Census of that county. Then he was in Dewitt County, with his brother, Charles A., on the 1860 Census. I have no ideal who their parents were. They did have siblings and I believe that their brother William also came to Texas but I have found no documented proof to that affect. There is another Oliver K. who I think is a uncle to my gg-grandfather. The father could be William M. Tuton of NC. Information from the 1870 US census of Dewitt County, P.O. Clinton. From the 1840 US census of Robeson County, NC and the 1850 US census of Austin County, Texas. He could have been married to a lady by the name of Margaret, last name unknown, in 1845. From the Fayetteville Observer, a newspaper of that time period, located in Fayetteville, North Carolina, had this in their September 22, 1846, issue: Died in Robeson County on the 12th, Mrs. Margaret Tuton, consort of Col. Oliver K. Tuton, aged 29. (Note: made Col. after elected constable, source to fwd information on Col.) From the September 2, issue: Died in Robeson County on Tuesday, Mr. James Tuten, formerly of this town. From the July 30, 1833, issue: Died in this vicinity on Saturday in his 17th year, Mr. John M. Tuton. From the October 7, 1834, issue : Died at Poplar Grove, Robeson County on the 28th, Delphea S. Tuton, wife of Oliver K. Tuton. There is a mistery to the wives of Oliver K. Tuton. It could be that he first married Delphi and if the above October 7, 1834 orbit is a fact, then he could have married Margaret and this would make her the mother of his first set of children, including my g-grandmother Sarah Tuton Gilbert. Oliver then married Christine Black after this Margaret died in the above orbit from the September 22, 1846, issue, as dying on the 12th. There is no way I can explain the 1840 Census of North Carolina, that had Delphi listed under the household of Oliver K. Tuton, as his wife. The question now is, did he have any children by Delphi..?
