"Dewitt Rifles", then they became company E of the 8th Texas Calvalry referred to as Terry's Texas Rangers. # 202 Republic of Tx vs JASPER GILBERT (1838) insulting and striking Sally Robinson. According to 1840 Citizens of Texas, Vol. 3, Land Grants-Gilbert, Jasper/arrived in Texas, 1822/1 lg./1 labor/unconditional certificate Colorado County Febuary 1838. According to the land certificates found in Colorado County, first class unconditional; Gilbert, Jasper, 1 league/1 labor, 1838; certificate #89; "Jasper Gilbert man of family emigrated in the year 1822, previous to the 2nd May 1835 proved his residence in Texas." The Muster Rolls of Texas Revolution, pg. 128-Jasper Gilbert is petitioning for guardianship of minor heirs-Pleasant L. and Bartley S. Gilbert 13th September 1847. According to the 1850 Census of DeWitt County, Texas: Jasper Gilbert, 41, M, Blacksmith, Tennessee; Elizabeth Gilbert, 32, F, South Carolina; Pleasant L. Gilbert, 10, M, Texas; Baethy Gilbert, 8, M, Texas; Frances Gilbert, 3, F, Texas. This info was taken from the History of DeWitt County, Texas, pg. 63, colume1. Also from this source: The DeWitt Rifles became Company "E" of the 8th Texas Cavalry, referred to as Terry's Texas Rangers. They filed two muster rolls in late April-Captain W.R.
