  MI Civil War as private 03-10-1864. Was in battle of Vicksburg; Sherman's March to the Sea; Battle of Bald Hill; Pocotaligo. Arrived in Atlanta, GA on Aug. 17th. 1864. He knew his brother-in-law Benjamin Foster was there and went looking for him. Found the body, put it in rough box and shipped him back to Mauston, Wisconsin.

  Baraboo Republic 11-29-1905 The funeral of John A. Murray of Delton will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 from the church at that place. Mr. Murray died quite suddenly Monday night. He had been very ill for several days with gastritis, but was thought to be improving. Was enjoying a visit from his son, Ellis, who is at home on a vacation from Parkersburg, VA. He had called for a drink of water when he suddenly became unconscious and died immediately from heart failure. He was about 74 years of age. He served during the Civil War and for many years was a resident of the Town of Excelsior, moving to Delton about 20 years ago where he has since resided. He leaves a wife and six children.
