Note: Served in Puerto Rico during Spanish American War. No children. Reedsburg Press - no date Lewis G. Murray was born July 10, 1873 in the town of Dellona, Sauk, and died May 10, 1940, in an auto accident, at the age of 66 years, 10 months. At the age of 24 he answered his country's call for service in the war against Spain, enlisting in Do. D, Third Wisconsin Infantry, at Mauston, and serving in Puerto Rico, being honorably discharged at the close of the war. As a young man he earned his livelihood as a carpenter, and later as a painter. He was united in marriage with Edith Weidling on 3-2-1921, in Baraboo, and lived in this city for some time. He was a charter member of Parshall-Cummings Post 2336 Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United Stated, in Baraboo. Besides his widow, he is survived by a brother, Delbert Murray, and a sister, Mrs. Frank Wilkinson, both of LA, California also a number of nephews and nieces. At 2:30 Mon. at the McGann funeral chapel relatives, friends and veterans met to pay their last respects to Comrade Lewis G. Murray, a veteran of the Spanish American War. The services were conducted by Rev. E.C. Henke. At the grave in the Lake Delton cemetery the services were in charge of Post No. 2336 of the VFW. The firing squad was from, H, 128th Inf. in charge of Lt. Lamoine Hiller, Bugler Schiefelbein of the Portage Veterans post sounded taps. The pallbearers were Charles Behnkem, Col. Dan Remmington, John Schwab and George Millard of Mauston and members of Mr. Murray's company and Lewis Anderson and Frank Dwinnell of Baraboo, who are also Spanish American War Veterans. Out-of-town relatives who attended the service were Mr. and Mrs. Oral Vreeland of Evansville, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Newell and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Watkins of Baraboo; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weidling of Fargo, ND and Mrs. Arthur Danz of Summitti, NJ.
