Continued: 1830 United States Federal Census, Union District, SC Elizabeth Burgess 2 white males, age 5 to under 10 years I have not yet identified this child. There are several possibilities. Lemuel Burgess, documented through his grandchildren's intermarriage with other Burgess lines, is one. Another is Richard Burgess. Information on his family is very limited. He married Rebecca Morris by 1845. They appear in the 1850 and 1860 census records for Union Co SC. Richard Burgess reportedly died in the Civil War. Richard and Rebecca had the following known children: Francis, born abt 1845. Appears in the 1850 and 1860 census with parents. An F M Burgess served in the 7th Regiment SC Reserves (90 Days 1862-83) and Co H 15th Regiment SC Infantry along with a Richard Burgess. F M Burgess of Co H 15th Regiment SC Infantry died at Gettysburg Jul 16 1863. [The Charleston Mercury newspaper issue dated 8/28.1863 gives Pvt FM Burgess of Co H 15th SC Regiment as dying of a "compound fracture of the thigh bone" Jul 15 1863 at Kershaw's Brigade Hospital near Gettysburg.] Josephine, born abt 1847, died Mar 30 1918. Appears in the 1850 and 1860 census with parents. Married John C Sinclair, born abt Jul 1847, died May 5 1927. Had at least the following children: Starling Aubrey Sinclair, born Apr 9 1879, Bernice Sinclair, born abt May 1883, married Fleming Robert Ivey Abt 1903, Leila Sinclair, born abt May 3 1888. John, born abt 1850. Appears in the 1850 and 1860 census with parents. Appears in the 1870 census with sisters Rosanna, Ramouth, and Harriet and a Joseph Burgess, age 19 (Don't know who this is unless it is Josephine.) Rosanna, born abt March 1852, died Jul 15 1920 in Laurens Co SC. She never married. Appears in the 1860 census with parents, in 1870 census with siblings, 1900 and 1920 with sister, Ramouth Burgess Bailey. Ramouth, born abt 1855. Appears in 1860 census with parents, in 1870 census with siblings. Married Lewis Bailey abt 1880. They had 7 known children. Ramouth and Lewis Bailey were in the Union Co SC census of 1880, in Laurens Co from 1900. Sarah, born abt 1847. Appears in the 1860 census with parents. Harriet, born abt 1859. Appears in 1860 census with parents and in 1870 census with siblings. A John T Burgess, born abt 1850, died Apr 15 1921, may be the son of Richard and Rebecca Burgess. His death certificate gives his parents as John Burgess and a female Morris. However, the names of his children are similiar to those of other descendants of Daniel Burgess of Spartanburg Co SC. Daniel Burgess had a son, John, born abt 1850 also. Richard Burgess may belong to Daniel's line.
