Burgess, 58, husband of Frances Millwood Burgess of Route 5, died 7:55 a.m. Sunday in the Veterans' Hospital at Columbia after a long illness. Native of Cherokee County; son of the late W. Frank and Rosa Medley Burgess; member of Corinth Baptist Church; veteran of World War II; a textile employe. Also surviving: daughter, Mrs. Barbara Blanton of Gaffney; sons, Carroll Dean, Terrell Lynn, and Mike Burgess of Gaffney; sisters, Miss Edith Burgess of Clemson, Mrs. R. C. Spencer of Gaffney, Mrs. George Wiedermann of Gaffney; brother, Walton Burgess of Gaffney; five grandchildren. Services 3 Monday at Corinth Baptist Church by Dr. Robert Abrams and the Rev. Robert Glazner; burial in church cemetery. Body in church at 2:30 Monday. Family to receive friends 7-9 tonight at Shuford- Hatcher Funeral Home.
