  The Spartanburg Herald, Spartanburg, S. C., October 31 1959 Oscar Burgess Jonesville -- Oscar Burgess, 79, of Union Route 4, died Friday at 12:30 a. m. at Wallace Thomson Hosptial at Union after several months illness. He was the son of the Late Thomas and Rachel Ward Burgess and was the last survivor of the old Tom Burgess family. Mr. Burgess was a member of the Upper Fairforest Baptist Church. He was employed at Arkwright Mills in Spartanburg until his retirement several years ago. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. He was single. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p. m. at the Upper Fairforest Baptist Church by the Revs. Frank Inman, Everett Smith and W. S. Bennett. Burial will be in the Gilead Cemetery near Jonesville. Pallbearers will be Buck and Jack Vinson, Clyde, Donald, Edward and Harold Burgess. The body will be at the home of a niece, Mrs. Herman Duckett, on Union Route 4, after 4 p. m. Saturday and will be placed in the church Sunday at 2 p. m. George Warr Funeral Home of Jonesville is in charge.
