Continued: The Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Spartanburg, S. C., December 13 1953 W. E. Burgess Greer -- W. E. (Bill) Burgess, 81, 209 Virgina Avenue, died Saturday morning at 5 in a Greenville nursing home following an illness of three months. Mr. Burgess was born and reared in Cherokee County and had resided at Greer 50 years, during which time he was connected with Greer Mill and was overseer of the weaving department for a number of years. He was a member and former steward of Concord Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Delores Burgess, two brothers, Curtiss and Paul, both of Gaffney; two sisters, Mrs. Leila Harmon of Gaffney and Mrs. Ed Byers of Cowpens. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 4 p. m. at Wood Mortuary, conducted by the Rev. D. W. Smith. Burial will be in the family plot in Wood Memorial Park. The following are to meet at the mortuary at 3:45 and serve as active pallbearers: Ferris and Luther Green, Frank Barton, Claude Forrester, Milledge and N. M. Brannon. Members of the board of stewards of the Concord church are to meet at the same time and form the honorary escort. The body will remain at Wood Mortuary.
