a. Continued:   The Spartanburg Herald-Journal, Spartanburg, S. C., March 10 1954 James Roy Burgess Funeral services for James Roy Burgess, 24, of Clifton No. 1 will be conducted this afternoon at 4:30 at Clifton Baptist Church by the Rev. T. E. Bullington. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Burgess apparently took his own life late Monday night with a blast from a single barrell shotgun, county police reported. No inquest is planned. Members of the family told officers Mr. Burgess had been in ill health for about the past year. Capt. Jack Fowler said an investigation revealed the young man had watched television Monday nigth, then went into an adjoining room and fired the gun. The wound was in the chest. Police said his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Burgess, were in the next room and heard the shot. Mr. Burgess was a native of Spartanburg County. He was a member of the Clifton Presbyterian Church. Surviving besides his parents are one sister, Mrs. Loretta McAbee, and his grandmother, Mrs. Biddie Lee. The body will be placed in the church at 3:30 p. m. Pallbearers will be J. T. Hill, Jack Carr, Morris Elms, Grady Burrell, Howard Mason and Lloyd Taylor. J. F. Floyd Mortuary is in charge.
