Continued: The Spartanburg Herald, Spartanburg, S.C., October 9, 2002 Elsie Lavender Godfrey Mayo, SC - Elsie Lavender Godfrey, 88, of 131 Shady Grove Road, died Sunday, October 6, 2002, at her home. A native of Union, SC, she was the daughter of the late Edward Icing and Ethel Lavender Fox and the wife of the late Herbert C. Godfrey. She formerly worked at Mayo Mill and Hardees on Highway 221. She was a member of Ochard Street Baptist Church where she was a member of the Heaven Bound Sunday School Class and also taught the 5 year old Sunday School Class for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Helen G. Walls and her husband Bob of Spartanburg, and Jackie Lowe and her husband Leon of Chesnee; three sons, Cecil Godfrey and his wife Jo Ann of Mayo, Kenneth Godfrey of the home and Charles Godfrey and his wife Doris of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Polly Stark of Mayo and Doris Cook of Black Mountain, N.C.; three brothers, Floyd Fox, Arthur Fox, and Horace Fox, all of Black Mountain, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was predeceased by a son, Thermal Godfrey; two brothers, Crawford Lavender and Harold Fox; and a sister, Lucille Dalton. Visitation will be 10-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2002, at Orchard Street Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow at 12:oo noon at Springhill Memorial Gardens conducted by the Rev. Allen Dean Blanton. Pallbearers will be Keith Blanton, Troy Blanton, Eric Blanton, Michael Parris, Jeff Greer, and Dean Kirby. Mrs. Godfrey's grand- children and their spouses will serve as Honorary Escort. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honduras Mission Fund, c/o Orchard Street Baptist Church, PO Box 219, Mayo, SC 29368. The family is at the home.
