Note: John Lavender Old Fort - John Loyd Lavender, 74, of Old Fort, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, July 19, 2010 at his residence. He was born August 19, 1935 in McDowell County to the late Hubert Coyle Lavender and Ella G. Moore Lavender. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in Korea. He held a perfect attendance record throughout school. Mr. Lavender had faithfully served the Lord for over 60 years. He was gloriously saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. He was the co-founder of True Holiness Fellowship Church in Old Fort. Mr. Lavender was a gifted floral designer for over 50 years, having received the award for North Carolina's # 1 Floral Designer. He loved all and was loved by all. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by four brothers, Clarence Lavender, Willie Lavender, Grady Lavender and Grover Shorty Lavender. Surviving are one brother, Gary Lavender Sr. and wife, Judy of Liberty, Ky.; five sisters, Polly Silver, Viola Allison, Jean Jensen, Fran Lavender, all of Old Fort, Patricia Jennings of Salisbury, NC; 28 nieces and nephews; 40 great nieces and nephews; and 10 great-great nieces & nephews. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010 at Kirksey Funeral Chapel in Old Fort with the Revs. Gary Lavender II. and Edward Peach officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Moffitt Hill Cemetery
