a. Note:   , 1997, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Columbia, after an extended illness. A native of Union County, he was a son of the late Jesse and Myrtle Sanders Burgess. He was a member of Cross Anchor Masonic Lodge No. 262 and the VFW. He was a retired self-employed construction contractor and a disabled veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. Survivors include his wife, Annis Bolton Burgess; three daughters, Lynn Bobo and Juanita Burgess of Cross Keys and Pam Gwinn of Greenville; a son, Oren W. Burgess Jr. of Cross Keys; three sisters, Edna Smith of Spartanburg, Anna Ferguson of Dallas, N.C., and Janice Fiorino of Liverpool, N.Y; a brother, Leroy Burgess of Wichita Falls, Texas; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in New Hope Baptist Church in Cross Anchor. Burial will be in the Burgess family cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Memorials may be made to Cross Anchor Masonic Lodge No. 262, P.O. Box 6, Cross Anchor, 29331 or to Union Veterans of Foreign Wars, Union, 29379
