a. Continued:   Edna Burgess Smith, 78, of 106 Sydnor Rd., died Aug. 17, 1998 in Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Union County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Myrtle Sanders Burgess. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Spartanburg where she was a member of the Lydia Class. She was a veteran of the U.S.Navy, serving in the Waves during WWII and later worked in the office of the County Service Officer at the Spartanburg County Court House. Survivors include her husband, Jack L. Smith, of the home; one daughter, Billie Beth Tezza of Spartanburg; two step-sons, Jack L. "Larry" Smith, Jr, of Spartanburg, H. Lee Smith of Columbia; one step-daughter, Barbara Smith Brendle of Spartanburg; one sister, Janice Burgess Florino of Syracuse, NY; one brother, David Leroy Burgess of Wichita Falls, TX; six grandchildren, Chad Brendle, Brad Brendle, Matthew Brendle, Sarah Smith, Claire Smith and Maria Tezza. The family will recieve friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wed., August 19, 1998 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thurs., Aug, 20, 1998 at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel by the Rev. Robert C. Morgan and Dr. Kirk H. Neely. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Spanish Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Ralph Brendle, Chad Brendle, Brad Brendle, Matthew Brendle, David Burgess, and Jimmy Burgess.
